A Blog by Valerie Patten
I began the “Reclusive Child” series of paintings after viewing a small painting by Paul Klee entitled, “Kind als Ensiedler,” or “Child As Hermit” (1920). Paul Klee’s painting tapped into my own conscious and subconscious experiences of childhood narratives, and I took these experiences into many contexts visually in these paintings. Most of the paintings in this exhibit were created in the period 2007 – 2012, although there are two earlier paintings included in the exhibit that fit in with the meditative childhood experiences explored through these images.
